Adam Carter scored seven goals as holders Bodmin thrashed his former club Torpoint at Priory Park on Wednesday night to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Throgmorton Cup.

Carter struck after 12, 15, 32, 39, 48, 76 and 77 minutes to create a personal and club record - the prolific striker has never scored seven in one match before and Bodmin officials cannot recall one player scoring seven in a match in recent history.

Carter said: "I scored five in a game for Torpoint once but I've never scored seven."

Bodmin, who are home to Saltash United in the last eight, saw their three other goals come from substitute Sam Matthews (57 minutes), Shane Krac (80) and Lee Doel (86).

Torpoint, 4-0 behind at the break, appeared to throw in the towel in a one-way second half and only a number of brilliant saves by goalkeeper Sam Borthwick prevented an even bigger margin of defeat.

There was only one setback for Bodmin on a record-breaking night, with midfield man Steve Colwell suffering an ankle injury on the stroke of half time and having to be carried off to the dressing room.

He now has to be rated very doubtful for Saturday's crucial top of the table Peninsula League premier division clash at Plymouth Parkway.

Bodmin: Miller, Reed, Rundle, Chambers, Morgan, Doel, Colwell (Matthews 46), Krac, Carter, Luxton (Hobbs 56), Swiggs. Sub not used: Simmonds.

Torpoint: Borthwick, Lorimer, Payne, Fenwick, White, Curtis, Williams, Alexander, Goodman, Kershaw, Hicks. Subs: Batten, Potts, Onion.

Referee: Steve Nute (Saltash).
