"Catastrophic" effects feared as result of possible year-long sewerage works in Truro city centre
Businesses in Truro could suffer "catastrophic" effects of major sewerage works in the city, it has been claimed.
Work in the Victoria Square, Kenwyn Street and Little Castle Street area could go on for more than a year according to the Truro Business Improvement District (Bid).

Proposed year-long sewerage works could have "catastrophic" effects on businesses in Truro.
The organisation has issued a letter to traders in the area which said South West Water, through its contractor Balfour Beatty, had confirmed its intention to undertake a major project of works to relay new sewerage pipes in the city centre.
The letter from Neil Scott, Bid manager, said: "There are circa sixty businesses currently trading in these three areas and the impact of closing the roads to all vehicles for such a timespan coupled with the added severe disruption caused by the actual works will potentially be catastrophic to businesses in the area in what is already a very difficult economic climate."

It is not yet clear when the work would start or what the exact purpose would be.
Mr Scott said: "It will take 60 weeks to complete these works and may entail the complete closure of Victoria Square, Kenwyn Street and Little Castle Street for the duration, with significant changes and disruption to other roads in the vicinity."
Business owners are urged to attend a meeting at 6pm Monday at The One Eyed Cat, Kenwyn Street.

“Well said Cheekyman_jr..... What would the traders and locals say if the sewers failed and the city smelt strongly of sewage, and if the whold of the Fal downstream was polluted damaging the Tourism prospects of the whole Fal area, How popular would Truro be with overflowing toilets?
Bite the Bullet, find workarounds and proper phasing of works, and get the job done, it's essential else the SWW wouldn't be doing it.”
