Grandparents’ Day was first introduced to the UK in 1990 by the charity Age Concern to champion the wonderful role that grandparents play in modern society.
Once seen as the seemingly-ancient guardians of family traditions, instilling morals and manners in the next generation, modern day grandparents have shunned their prehistoric image and now play an active role in the lives of their grandchildren. Indeed with the average age of grandparents in decline, many juggle part time careers, exciting hobbies and travel as well as the increasing responsibility of being a grandparent.
This year Grandparents’ Day falls on Sunday 7th October and offers the perfect opportunity to thank the older generation for their unending love and support and show them that their contribution is not taken for granted.
