ORGANISERS of Looe's New Year's Eve celebrations are inviting people along to the town to welcome the start of 2013 in style.

Councillor Armand Toms said: "We ask for people to come and have a great New Year's Eve in Looe and end the year with a bang."

Three months ago it looked as though the seaside town's annual fireworks display might not go ahead.

Mr Toms said: "Since this time, with the help of friends, family and the staff of Looe Town Council, enough money has been raised to cover the costs of the fireworks display."

Organiser Sue Pengelly said: "Even in these tough times businesses and residents have supported us to fund this year's event and put money towards next year."

As well as the midnight display, this year's celebrations will include a children's and family display at 6pm.

The Rusty Bucket will also be holding a children's fancy dress competition, which starts at 5pm.

Mr Toms said: "We all know that this has been a difficult year for Looe. Poor weather and landslips have not helped local businesses.

"The traditional fireworks at midnight this year will hopefully bring new hope for the town," he said.

"Fancy dress is also the norm and adds to making it a night to remember," he added.

Organisers are looking for people to volunteer as stewards for the midnight display. For more information, contact Sue on 01503 269094 or Armand 01503 264823.
