Chance to comment on plans for housing estate
FAMILIES and homeowners in Quintrell Downs are being given the chance to comment on designs for a new 117-home housing estate, set to be built on their doorstep.
A public consultation event will take place on Monday about the plans, which will see 37 families provided with affordable homes on land near the West Road roundabout.
Work is expected to be completed on the first batch of one-, two-, three-and four-bedroom properties by next summer.
An associated project by site owner Fortdown Ltd to build a business complex on the land is also due to begin soon.

Shops, leisure facilities, a nursing home and a hydrotherapy pool have also been earmarked for the site.
Bosses at Devon and Cornwall Housing, which is in charge of the housing side of the development, say the new homes are needed as demand in the area is "very high".
However, the Quintrell Downs Action Group has opposed the scheme since it first emerged three years ago, saying local infrastructure will not be able to cope.
The group's Chris Hayne said: "We won't object to developments, providing the infrastructure is there to back them up, but this is the wrong development in the wrong place. It's too far away from schools and the roads just won't be able to cope with the traffic it will generate.
"We have 20,000 cars going through the village at the height of summer.
"There's gridlock at the moment. It's all a complete nonsense."
Matt Ward, the housing group's development manager, said the plans included new roads, car parking and green areas.
"Housing need in the area is very high," he said.
"There are around 50 households with a local connection to the parish of Colan, where the development is located, who are registered with Cornwall Homechoice and looking for a new affordable home, and around 1,000 households are looking for affordable housing in the wider Newquay area."
The housing will be provided by Westco Properties Ltd, which is part of Devon and Cornwall Housing group, in partnership with Kier Living.
The consultation event will take place between 3pm and 7pm at the Premier Inn on South Way, in the centre of Quintrell Downs.
Representatives of Westco and Kier will be on hand to talk about plans for the homes, as well as providing advice on affordable housing and how to apply. Information will also be available on the other aspects of the development.
