Charities curate eclectic supporting stage at Eden's summer shows
Each of this summer's Eden Sessions are shaping up into mini festivals with much to entertain audiences ahead of the headline acts.
The Biotik stage returns to the Mediterranean Biome for the third year running to showcase artists working with the charities Manchester Aid for Kosovo, Strummerville, Nowhereisland and Cape Farewell. The result of a long-term collaboration between Eden and Cape Farewell, Biotik brings together artists, scientists and communicators to engage people in the subject of climate change.
On June 23, before comedian Tim Minchin plays the main stage, Biotik will be curated by Strummerville, and headlined by She Makes War (pictured left), otherwise known as Laura Kidd, a multi-instrumentalist and visual artist with a bewitching voice and recordings from her global travels. She will be joined by Cornish singer songwriter Tom James, Bristol-based Gaz Brookfield and eccentric festival favourite Beans on Toast.
Before Plan B on July 6, the stage will host a series of talks and visual performances by Nowhereisland. And on July 11 – ahead of Noah and the Whale and the Vaccines – Manchester Aid for Kosovo will present cosmic-country poppers The Travelling Band, singer songwriter Karima Francis, electronic outfit Silverclub, rapper Gideon Conn and poet and blues man Stefan Melbourne.
