Charity bowls match in Tony's memory
BLISLAND Short Mat Bowls Club beat teams from Cornwall and one from Devon to win the Tony Watson Trophy tournament in St Minver, an event which raised £680 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The winning Blisland members pictured holding their individual trophies are Jacky Tyler, Sandra Matthews, Mike Webster and George Loveridge. The team are flanked by Richard and Karen Watson, son and granddaughter respectively, of the late Tony Watson. Great granddaughters Maddie and Imogen complete the line-up.
The team won all three games in the first session, beating Treviscoe 8-5, St Minver 7-5, and a joint St Minver-Tintagel team 6-3.
In the final they defeated Sidbury, 11-9. In total, 15 Cornish teams entered plus the Sidbury club from Devon. The Blisland club holds practice sessions on Tuesday and Sunday afternoons at 2.15pm and welcome new members.
