Charity gives 3D boost to cancer checks
The diagnosis of breast cancer at the Westcountry's largest hospital will become more accurate as a result of a new technique and upgraded technology.
The Primrose Breast Care Centre at Plymouth's Derriford Hospital will be one of the first in the country to install the three-dimensional digital upgrade to one of its Siemens X-ray machines.
The technology provides a set of reconstructed images which can be viewed in layers, enhancing the visualisation of suspected lesions.
Paid for by the Primrose Foundation charity and sponsorship from Siemens, it has the potential to improve early detection, allow for more accurate diagnosis and fewer false alarms.
