"It's dreadful," Anne said. "Keith has never done anything like this before. As far as I know he was very happy here.

"He was my favourite."

Anne expressed her concern for Keith's lifelong companion, Barry, who is now alone for the first time.

"He stands there looking forlorn," she said. "He has nobody to talk to."

Anyone living in or visiting the Lostwithiel area is encouraged to keep their eyes peeled for a gnome with "a cheeky grin, who looks a bit like Father Christmas".

Further distinguishing features include a perpetual and eye-catching wardrobe malfunction.

"He does have a builders' bum", Anne said. "He was bent over talking to the other gnome. That's why we called him Keith, because my builder is called Keith."

Desperate for the return of their ceramic comrade, Anne and companion gnome Barry are willing to go to great lengths.

"I will offer a reward for anyone who brings him home." Anne said. "Probably money, I don't know if they'd want a cream tea."
