Kindergarten children enjoyed spectacular rural surroundings as part of St Michael's Day celebrations in North Devon.

Youngsters from St Michael's Nursery, in Tawstock, joined in a traditional candlelit walk to commemorate the religious festival.

Ever since evacuees arrived at Tawstock Court to the present day, children have joined with nursery staff, friends and families to venture up Codden Hill. Around 60 people gathered at the summit to reflect on the North Devon school and embrace the spectacular views. Some 100 candles were lit to symbolise the nursery's past and present.

The event marked the end of an era and the beginning of a new future for the nursery, which reopened in January after going into administration before Christmas.

Sarah Sexon, St Michael's Nursery manager said: "The candlelit walk has become a tradition for the nursery. It is a time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future.

"We would like to take the opportunity to thank local businessmen, volunteers and the community for their support."
