It is understood the man, who is believed to be in his seventies, had possibly suffered an aneurysm in his abdomen and fallen unconscious. Ambulance crews provided treatment but requested the help of the Chivenor crew to provide a quick transfer to hospital. He was conscious again when Chivenor crews arrived at the scene.
The Chivenor crew, who also had two paramedics on board the helicopter, flew the man to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth before returning to base at around 3.30am.
