Choir celebrates 125th year with new album
An album marking the 125th anniversary of Truro Cathedral and of Truro Cathedral Choir has just been released.
The new CD, Truro 125, reflects the cathedral choir's international stature which has led to a large number of new works being commissioned from some of the most eminent composers alive today.
It is the choir's fourth CD under the direction of Christopher Gray, who said: "As well as singing a large repertoire from across the last 500 years, we have been active in commissioning new works from some of the UK's leading composers of choral music.
"I feel strongly about the importance of featuring new works which are a response to our time and our place, alongside the great masterpieces of the past.

Gabriel Jackson's contribution, Cantate Domino, was composed for the choir about six months ago and has just been shortlisted for the British Composer Awards.
While not written specifically for the Truro choir, the album also features Lament, which was written by Francis Pott in response to the death of Staff Sergeant Olaf Schmid, a former head chorister in Truro Cathedral Choir, who died while diffusing an IED in Afghanistan in October 2009.
