Members of the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team received an early wake-up call on Christmas day morning after they were scrambled to rescue an injured walker on Bodmin Moor.

The alarm was raised at 3am by the ambulance service.

Jim Gallienne, vice chair of the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team, said: "Eleven team members including two search and rescue dog handlers quickly deployed on to the moorland near to Minions, and located the male who was very cold.

"We were able to rewarm the casualty and carry him to our waiting Land Rover ambulance which then transferred him to the ambulance service."

The rescue took about three hours in cold and wet conditions.

"It was pretty cold on the moor with squally heavy showers," Mr Gallienne said.

The team, which is made-up entirely of volunteers, returned back to their homes at around 6am to enjoy Christmas with their families.

The injured walker was taken to hospital for a check-up but is expected to make a full recovery.
