CORNWALL COUNCIL will this year be collecting and recycling real Christmas trees in west Cornwall. From January 14 to 25 there will be a free street collection service. The council want people to leave their tree out for collection on their normal rubbish collection day but on the alternate week to the normal recycling collection. The trees will be collected separately, shredded and composted. The service is available to anyone. Rubbish and recycling collections will run as normal in the new year period. The authority has also released guidance on recycling cards and wrapping paper. Christmas cards should be placed in the recycling sack for cardboard. White envelopes should go into the paper sack, coloured or brown envelopes should go with the cardboard. Most Christmas wrapping paper can be recycled, unless coated with foil or plastic. All non-shiny paper can go in the paper sack. Big pieces of cardboard or large amounts can be flattened and bundled together and put out next to the recycling, or taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).
