Cornish leg spinner Michael Munday will be leaving the County Ground at the end of the current season after being told earlier this week that he is not being offered a new contract for the 2011 season.

Munday, 25, lives in Hayle and attended Truro School before going onto Corpus Christi College, Oxford where he gained a first class honours degree in chemistry.

The leg spinner, who is a prodigious turner of the ball, made his debut for his native Cornwall back in 2001 when he played in both Minor County and the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy, where the Duchy reached the third round before being knocked out by Sussex at Camborne, a game in which Munday claimed the wicket of Zimbabwe InternationalMurray Goodwin.

The Cornishman has long been a favourite at Somerset and will miss the electric atmosphere of the County GRound on match days but is satisfied with his efforts for the Cidermen.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank those players and staff whose help, friendship and support have guided me throughout my time at Somerset, and to wish the club well in its quest for silverware this season and in future seasons," said Munday who made his Somerset debut in 2005 and claimed his first championship wicket in the competition against Essex at Colchester.

The following season in the same fixture, this time at Chelmsford he took three for 83.

Munday received his grounding in first-class cricket while he was at Oxford University and won the first of his three Blues in 2003. In 2004 he played for England-Under 19 against Bangladesh.

In 2006 Munday played in three games, one of which – against Surrey at Guildford – featured two other Cornish cricketers: Neil Edwards and Carl Gazzard, both of whom have also since moved on.

The following season Munday also played in three championship fixtures for Somerset, the last of which saw him making his home debut against Nottinghamshire when he returned his career best figures of eight for 55.

Since then the majority of hi's cricket has been for the second XI where he has enjoyed considerable success, but despite this he has been unable to secure a place in the first team and this season made three championship appearances for Somerset .

Those appearances saw him take six wickets from 52.1 overs at a cost of 39.66 apiece.
