City choirs to join forces for requiem concert
Two choirs will join together for the launch of a major recording project.
Exeter's Philharmonic choir and the city's Cathedral choir will perform the Lazarus Requiem together as part of a joint concert in Exeter Cathedral.
Composed by classical Brit nominee Patrick Hawes, the Requiem incorporates the biblical study of Lazarus alongside the traditional words of the Requiem Mass. The performance will be conducted by Patrick, who was composer-in-residence at Classic FM from 2006-7.
The Cathedral choir comprises young boy and girl choristers who are educated at Exeter Cathedral School.
The children have specialist music training from professionally trained adult singers alongside their academic activities.
Founded in 1846, the Philharmonic choir is one of the oldest musical organisations in the country.
The concert will also feature orchestral accompaniment from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and a performance of Vaughan Williams' recently rediscovered Cambridge Mass. It will be in Exeter Cathedral on March 17. For tickets see www.exephil.org.uk
