Classical festival celebrates 40 years
THE 40th St Endellion Easter Festival takes place from March 29 to April 7.
In 1974 Richard and Fran Hickox founded the St Endellion Easter Festival, the baby sister to St Endellion Summer Festival that was founded in 1959. Forty years later Fran is still festival director and the event has grown out of all recognition from the first one where St Matthew Passion by Bach was performed twice.

Tenor Mark Padmore.
Fran said: "This year sees six concerts, two late-night candlelit jazz evenings, a Come & Sing event for the public, two lunchtime concerts held in St Kew Church, two free open rehearsals, and 9am Thought for the Day given by eminent guests on each week day. Additionally the festival has commissioned an anthem from composer Matthew Martin for the Easter Day Choral Evensong.
"The Festival Eucharist on Sunday, April 7, at 11am along with the 4.30 Choral Evensong are usually extremely well attended services so I advise the congregation to make an early arrival."

Particular highlights this year are the two performances of Elgar's masterpiece, The Dream Of Gerontius, with arguably Britain's best tenor, Mark Padmore, singing the lead role of Gerontius. Additionally the opening concert on Good Friday given by the world-renowned Endellion String Quartet is proving to be very popular.
