Coastline staff wave wands in fire prevention checks
Hundreds of Coastline homes are set to receive a complementary fire safety check, thanks to a partnership with Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and the help of a new testing 'wand'.
Coastline staff carried out more than 1,250 fire safety checks over the past year, and next year will be carrying out 700 more.

In future, they will be equipped with a "wand" which will allow them to test smoke detectors without having to resort to using a ladder.
Station manager Steve Mitchell, from the fire service, said: "The partnership between ourselves and Coastline Housing has been functioning really well and been crucial towards making the people of Cornwall safer.

"We were delighted to provide key Coastline staff with these alarm testing wands to help them further in their fire safety checks."
A home fire safety check includes a look around a property at what might be likely to cause a fire, assurance that the property's smoke detector is working, and ensuring that those living in the household have a fire escape plan should an incident occur.
Kevin Brown, head of housing services at Coastline, said: "A fire safety check only takes a short time, but is vital to ensuring safety from fire, and could potentially save a life.
"We're very proud to continue to work with the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and promote these vital safety messages."
