£2m towards the bill
A LARGE wedge of the bill to construct two new buildings at Truro College has been covered by a government grant.
The college has been handed £2 million from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills towards the £10 million cost of the new rooms for engineering courses and science laboratories.
Planning permission was granted last year for the construction on the college's rugby pitch.
The money will help fund the college's extension of its construction and automotive engineering facilities, be used to improve science facilities and support students with learning disabilities.
Sarah Newton, MP, who made representations to ministers in support of the grant application, said: "I am delighted that Truro and Penwith College is to benefit from the Government's further education investment programme.
"It is excellent news that this additional funding will be used to support construction and engineering teaching at the college, enhancing facilities that give our young people the chance to acquire skills that will be highly valued by local employers."
