Colville backs George Cross for Gibraltar
A campaign to award Gibraltar the George Cross will be given careful consideration by the Government, Commons Leader Andrew Lansley has said.
Conservative Oliver Colville (Plymouth, Sutton and Devonport) said the territory should be given the nation's highest award for gallantry as it has played a significant role in Britain's defence for 300 years.
Turning to Mr Lansley in the Commons, Mr Colville said: "As you may be aware my Plymouth, Sutton and Devonport constituency has very close links with Gibraltar.
"I am delighted to support the campaign to give this Royal Naval port, which has played such a significant role in the defence of Britain over the last 300 years, the George Cross, similar to the one given to Malta in 1942. To demonstrate this House's support for Gibraltar could we please have a debate on it?"

Mr Lansley replied: "I am aware of the recent launch of the campaign for Gibraltar to be awarded the George Cross. As you will know, all reasonable cases for gallantry awards are given very careful consideration."
