Combo snippets - January 24
I WAS asked the other day who has played the most games in the Combo? No idea I replied, as I never see team sheets, but it got me thinking.
I wonder who has been playing the longest for the same team. Not someone in the past but someone who is still playing for a Combo team, from their first game years ago, to their latest without playing for anyone else as well. The league's most loyal player.
If anyone out there reckons they are that player or knows of someone text me on 07597907549 with the details of the player's name, his club, playing career (when started, rough number of games played, goals scored, etc) and I'll mention them in the Snippets.
SOMEONE also asked about promotion/relegation into the Combo, so here is a quick explanation.

At the end of the season the bottom two clubs can be relegated from the league. If only one team is able to come up then only one team will be relegated. If a club is promoted from the Combo into the SWPL and no team is demoted from it then only one team to be relegated to Trelawny League. If no club's able to come up from the Trelawny then no relegation from the Combo.
Promotion to the Combo from the Trelawny: Only top three clubs can be considered for promotion unless one or more of the top three are Reserve sides of teams already in the Combo. In that case the fourth placed club may be considered. Only a maximum of two clubs can be promoted in a single season.
Timings: A club wanting promotion to the combo must tell their league by January 7. Grounds are then graded by their own league by February 7. These clubs then have to apply to the Combo by February 14 including a £25 fee. The Combo then inspect these grounds by March 14. Any work needing to be carried out to be done and the ground re-inspected by May 31. Clubs then will know at Combo AGM who, if any clubs will be relegated/promoted.
Rumour has it one club has applied for promotion into the Combo. If so then whoever finishes bottom is under threat. At the moment that team is Holmans who survived a vote at last season's AGM and were reprieved from relegation. Perhaps all they have received is one season's grace.
Last Saturday was Holmans' 500th league game, having played those games over a double stretch having spent seasons 83/84 to 87/88 as Combo club and from the start of 04/05 to the present. Of those 500 games they have won 133, drawn 71 and lost 296. They have scored 763 goals and conceded 1,336. This weekend's match at home to Perranwell in the League Cup quarter-final is the furthest they have ever got in the competition but have appeared in the Supplementary Cup final twice losing both.
The other three League Cup quarter-finals are fixtured for next week along with two of the four Sup Cup preliminary round matches.
One other milestone passed last weekend, the goal Mullion conceded at Wendron was their 2,700.
