Mr Baber will be handing over the reigns to a new chief executive some time this spring. PCH said that the challenge of transition had evolved into the strategic management of a well-structured, sustainable Community Interest Company.

Michael Williams, Chair of PCH, said: "During his time in Cornwall, Kevin has been instrumental in leading the transition of community services to a community interest company and has made great strides in securing the place of PCH in the health and social care system in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.

"Kevin's legacy is marked by significant development and improvement to the organisation which include pioneering care services closer to patients' homes, developing community nursing and the successful integration of key adult health and social care service. Kevin has always ensured that safety and quality has been our number one priority and this will continue to be the PCH focus.

"PCH now has a great opportunity to recruit a new chief executive who will build on this legacy and are looking forward to the benefits and opportunities the new appointment will bring to the organisation.

"We wish Kevin every happiness and success in his new role and look forward to working alongside him in his new role at Derriford to improve community services within North and East Cornwall."Recruitment for the position will begin immediately. In the meantime, Helen Newson, Director of Nursing and Professional Practice for PCH, will become the Acting Chief Executive.
