Competition heats up for firefighters
Two firefighters from the Westcountry will represent the UK at an international competition in America next week.
Stephen Miles and Chris Williams, from St Mawes and Mullion fire stations in Cornwall, will compete against other trauma technicians in Florida for the World Rescue Organisation Trauma Challenge. The pair earned their place by finishing 10th in last year's world competition, staged in London. This year they have also competed both regionally and nationally, placing third and sixth.
But the trip has only been made possible by a year-long fundraising effort by the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service Extrication Team, of which both are members.
Cornwall Council cabinet member for homes and communities, Geoff Brown, said: "This is a great example of the breadth of tasks efficiently delivered by our fire fighters in the name of community safety."
