Connonbridge landfill site in East Taphouse set to remain open until 2018
Connonbridge landfill site in East Taphouse will continue to operate until 2018, Cornwall Council's Strategic Planning Committee has decided. Sita, the company which manages the site on behalf of Cornwall Council, had applied for planning permission to keep the site open for an additional 22 years. However at today's meeting at County Hall in Truro, councillors voted in favour of an amended proposal to close Connonbridge at the end of 2018.
During the meeting Cornwall Councillor John Filter expressed his concern for residents living near the site.

"I'm filled with horror hearing the things that people in the area have to put up with," Mr Filter said. "There has to be dramatic improvements," he added.
People living near Connonbridge, which is the only remaining landfill site in the county, protested against the plans.
