Corgi coup for royal letter writer Romilly
A corgi-crazy seven-year-old is the envy of all of her friends after receiving a very special reply to her royal letter.
Romilly Goddard, from Barnstaple, wrote a letter to the Queen as she wanted to know all about her pet corgis.
Romilly said: "I love dogs and corgis are my favourite – but we have a spaniel.
"I really wanted to know what all of the Queen's corgis were called."
Romilly wrote a letter addressed to "Queen Elizabeth".
In addition to asking about the corgis, she wrote: "I can't wait for George to be King."
Mum Kerrie said that Romilly had written the letter herself.
Kerrie said: "She kept asking if she could post this letter, so one day on the walk to school I just popped it in the postbox.
"We didn't put a stamp on it and it was just addressed to 'The Queen, Buckingham Palace'. Really, I was just humouring her."
But last Thursday morning, Kerrie was left stunned when a letter with the royal seal addressed to Romilly landed on the doormat.
She said: "At first I thought it was for my husband, as he is in the Army, but when I saw it was addressed to Romilly I was shocked.
"You just don't expect them to reply."
The letter, which was written by the Queen's lady-in-waiting Baroness Richenda Elton, thanked Romilly for her letter, and included a special leaflet entitled 'Royal Pets'.
The leaflet said: "The Queen was given her first corgi, Susan, at the age of 18.
"All Her Majesty's corgis are descended from Susan."
Romilly was thrilled that the leaflet included all of the names of the Queen's corgis, which include Myth, Kelpie, Rush, Brandy, Cider, Willow and Pharos.
She said: "I like all of the names, but if I had a corgi I would call it Isabella." Romilly will now be framing the letter, but not before it is read out by the headteacher of Newport Community School, which she attends, during assembly. Romilly said: "All of my friends are going to be very jealous."
Kerrie added: "Now Romilly's sister wants to write one asking about the crown jewels. Let's hope she gets a reply too."
