Swansea 10 Cornish Pirates 30

The Cornish Pirates remain on course for a place in the quarter-final of the British & Irish Cup after completing a tournament double over Swansea in the mud and rain at St Helens.

With Dundee beating Carmarthen Quins the Pirates now only need to win at home to the Scottish side after Christmas to secure their passage to a home draw.

They scored three tries here but fell behind inside the firsat minute as Swansea scrum-half Aled Lewis seized turnover ball and raced clear from 60 metres. Sam Davies converted.

Kieran Hallett opened the Pirates account with a 24th minute penalty as they took control of the game and Kyle Marriott was driven over for the opening try whilst home flanker James Bija was in the sin bin.

Hallett and Davies exchanged early second half penalties to make it 13-10 to the Pirates but after Hallett struck for the third time the Cornish side didn`t look back.

Tom Bedford claimed the second Pirates try after 64 minutes taking Cattle`s flip pass to score in the corner, and moments later Bedford and Tom Riley were instrumental in setting up Rob Elloway for the third score. Hallett converted both tries as the Pirates registered their first ever win in Wales in this competition.
