Five Cornish meats you can trust
Five of the best – Cornish meats
NOT a day seems to go by at the moment without a story about meat making it into the news. But no matter whether it's horse meat posing as beef or health scares around over-consumption of over-processed meat, one thing has become abundantly clear – the shorter the supply chain, the easier it is to be sure of the quality you are getting.
Swannacott Manor Meats
A family farm for over six generations, Swannacott sells meat straight from the farm. From sirloin steaks and rolled ribs to roasting joints, pork chipolatas and burgers, they produce fresh, quality meat from animals born and raised at Swannacott Manor, a 200-acre pasture farm set in rolling hills just outside Week St Mary in North Cornwall. It's the perfect place to head if you're looking for non-mass-produced delights for the barbecue and they even offer hog roast hire. Their lamb is especially tasty and they also supply mutton from time to time. Call the farmer on 01288 341210, visit the farm shop or buy online at www.callthefarmer.co.uk

Family-run Tamblyn's recently won 'Best Farm Diversification' at the 2013 Cornwall Farm Business Awards. In 1943 John and Clara Tamblyn came upon the idea to diversify their farming business and start a butchers and now, some 70 years later the Tamblyn grandsons, Jonathan and Martin, have followed their grandparents' lead. When asked what they liked most about local butcher Tamblyn's, many would say 'sausages'. Their gourmet sausages come in a variety of delicious flavours and are produced from pork that is hand-reared on their turn of the century farm in Blunts, and even fed on homegrown cereal.
