Cornwall Council strategy to create 7,000 apprenticeships
The chief executive of the National Apprenticeship Service has officially launched Cornwall Council's latest Apprenticeship Strategy scheme, which will see up to 7,000 places created by 2014.
David Way was welcomed to Cornwall by council leader Alec Robertson and Paul Masters, the authority's assistant chief executive.

The Apprenticeship Strategy will see the council providing 200 new apprenticeships within its own organisation over the next two years. It also aims to draw down European Social Fund Convergence funding to set up an Apprenticeship Academy to increase the current Cornwall wide target of 5,000 apprenticeships a year by an additional 2,000 by 2014.
Mr Way said: "Apprenticeships are the main bridge between schools and colleges and the world of work. This strategy will make a real difference to both young people and employers in Cornwall."

Mr Robertson said: "We need to have a workforce of skilled and ambitious people at all levels if we are going to achieve our aims for Cornwall.
During his visit to County Hall Mr Way also met with Dr Sue Brownlow, director of the Combined Universities in Cornwall, Tamsyn Harris, deputy head of Cornwall College Business, Dave Matthew, deputy principal of Truro and Penwith College, Kim Conchie, chief executive of Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and a number of local employers.
Dr Brownlow said: "We're keen to encourage higher level apprenticeships in Cornwall, giving people a natural route to continue learning."
