Cornwall Symphony Chorus
THE CORNWALL Symphony Chorus, one of the largest mixed voice choirs in the South West, has raised more than £5,000 for charity since it was formed two years ago.
Conducted by Alastair Taylor, the group recently filled Truro Methodist Church with more than 600 people to be enthralled by music and comedy from the 160 singers.
Chorus chairman Ted Gundry (right) presents a cheque for £827 to, from left, Rosie Gray and Kate Jacques of Macmillan Cancer Support, musical director Alaistair Taylor and treasurer Alice Allsworth.
Ted Gundry, formerly of Radio Cornwall, chaired the concert and Melanie and Daniel Hoadley starred as guest artists. Clive Ellison and Philip Davey from the church accompanied the choir.
Although the chorus performs only three times a year, it is gaining a reputation as a top-quality and popular entity with the ability to interest listeners of all tastes with a diverse mixture of music.

The repertoire spreads across all aspects of music and includes classical, oratorio, showstoppers, opera, blues, folk music and jazz.
Its website states: "Most remarkable is the fact that so many people can join together to make superb music that makes any audience sit up and take notice, yet still manage to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with members leaving rehearsals and concerts alike with a buzz of excitement, and a vibrant confidence in where the chorus is heading."
The chorus was started by musical director Mr Taylor who has put his "heart and soul" into it ever since, according to members. Over the years they have raised money for Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Nursing and CLIC Sargent.
