Cornwall chefs Nathan Outlaw, Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth make the Sunday Times Food List 2013
Cornwall chefs Nathan Outlaw, Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth have made it onto this year’s Sunday Times Food List.
The list, which aims to identify the finest restaurant food in the country, was compiled after more than 9,000 diners submitted their scores and comments about restaurants across Britain.
Nathan Outlaw’s two star Michelin restaurant St Endoc Hotel in Rock, North Cornwall, was ranked 4th on the list after being described by diners as “the finest fish restaurant in the UK.”
Mr Outlaw, who opened St Endoc Hotel three years ago, said his food is inspired by local produce.
“My inspiration comes from what I can get locally,” he told the Sunday Times.
“To have the best seafood restaurant, you have to work with what the fisherman give you.”
Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant in Padstow jumped up nearly 20 places compared to last year putting him in 49th place.
The restaurant, which has been running for 39 years, was praised by the authors for its relaxed atmosphere.
They said: “The restaurant is fun, comfortable and unpretentious and Stein’s infectious enthusiasm is evident in all who work here.”
And Paul Ainsworth’s restaurant in Padstow came in at number 59.
Diner’s described the restaurant as “fun,” said the cooking was “meticulous” and praised the staff for being “friendly and informative.”
The number one spot went to Devon’s Gidleigh Park run by Michael Caines and his team of twenty five chefs.
He was followed by Andrew Fairlie in Scotland, who was ranked number one last year, and Francis Atkins from North Yorkshire who was ranked third.
