Cornwall's U18s continue fine form: Cornwall U18s 2, Somerset U18s 1

CORNWALL maintained their unbeaten record in this season's South West Counties Youth Championship with a thoroughly deserved victory over their Somerset counterparts at Penzance's Penlee Park on Saturday.
Despite a long journey to the far west of the county, Somerset, who drew 3-3 with Devon in their opening Group B fixture in midweek, were first to settle and were soon in front.
They took a seventh minute lead through Bath City centre-half Morgan Marsh, who rose above the Cornwall defence to glance home a left-wing corner which gave keeper Sam Trudgian no chance.

But Tommy Matthews' young charges responded positively after falling behind and after twice going close to an equaliser, were back on level terms on the quarter hour. Good work from Penzance's Callum George created the opening for his strike partner Ed Wilton (Perranporth) to beat visiting keeper Dan Hughes with a precise finish into the bottom left corner.
George and Wilton continued to be a constant thorn in the side for the visiting defence as the hosts create much the better opportunities.
However, they looked as if they might be left to rue some wasteful finishing, with Wilton in particular having a couple of gilt edged chances to put the game out of Somerset's reach.
But Cornwall finally scored the decisive goal 25 minutes from time, courtesy of Oscar Bennetts (Saltash) who scored with his first touch after coming on as a substitute, much to the delight of the Cornish fans in a good sized crowd of 120.
The Duchy youngsters remain top of Group B with seven points from their three games.
Cornwall's final group fixture, away to Wiltshire, has yet to be arranged, but will be played on either Saturday April 6 or 13.
