Cornwall's oldest Cornish pasty maker updates its first store
CORNWALL'S oldest bakery has seen its shop in St Just given a makeover as the company moves with the times.
Warrens Bakery, said to be the oldest Cornish pasty producer in the world, has its roots in the town having first served up its famous seasoned steak, swede and potato offering there in 1860.
Now its shop has been one of the first in the chain to be updated, while also selling some new products as it looks to further modernise and develop its image this year.
Josie Herbert, the store's new manager, said it looks fresh but added the old values of the bakery remain.

"It's quite a big change to what it was," she said. "It looks very different and has been updated but it still has a traditional edge to it.
"There's lots of history on the walls there are posters and blown up photos showing how it was when they first started out. The shop looks great. It looks modern but in keeping with its style."
Miss Herbert said it was a good time to join the team, as the Warrens Bakery brand evolves.
"It's a nice time to come in," said the manager.
"Everyone is expecting changes to happen - it makes it easier to bring things in. We're gradually changing the look and image of the company - there's a lot going on."
There are around 50 Warrens Bakeries across the South West that are all set to be given the new look. A handful have already been refurbished, according to Miss Herbert, and as the pasty business crimped its first pastry case in St Just, the town's store was one of the first to be done.
She also mentioned a number of the new products recently launched, including muffins, cupcakes and meringues.
