Council looking into staffing need
COUNCILLORS in St Ives are urgently reviewing staffing levels as the town council's workload is set to rocket.
An extraordinary resources committee meeting was called for last Thursday with the sole purpose of assessing whether new staff were needed.
An extraordinary full council meeting set for today to ratify taking on a new member of staff was only cancelled when councillors said they wanted to look more closely at what extra support they need.
St Ives Town Council currently employs two full-time staff – the town clerk and an admin officer – and a part-time clerical assistant.

But from April the council is to take over the running of the Guildhall and to take on a consultation for a town plan wanted by campaigners concerned about development in the town. It is also in discussions to take on running of the town's public toilets.
Mayor of St Ives Ron Tulley said: "I think we are going to need some additional staffing.
"It needs to be done sooner rather than later so we called an extraordinary meeting.
"We need to address support for existing staff but within a reasonable budget."
