Around 7,000 schoolchildren will benefit from the Bikeability cycle training scheme over the next year after Devon County Council's successful bid for Government funding. Council chiefs will receive a £280,000 grant from the Department for Transport in April to continue running the scheme in 2013-14. It is a national initiative offering cycling proficiency which has been adopted by the council as the cycle training standard in the county. More than 20,000 youngsters in the county have already received Bikeability training from the council since it started in 2006.
