BEAMING parents Martyn and Emmillie Selley are celebrating after a nerve-racking labour which saw new arrival Harry spend his first 24 hours in neonatal care.

They and their son Max have now been able to welcome him home to Newbridge, Truro, after he was born 6lb, 7oz on January 26.

"The staff at Treliske were fantastic. It was a shock at the time and obviously very distressing but we knew he was in safe hands," said Mr Selley, who was at his wife's side throughout the labour.

"He was taken away because he seemed to have difficulties with his breathing. He was gone for an hour, which felt like 12 hours and was horrendous for us as we waited for news." Harry was placed in an incubator while staff carried out tests and returned to his parents soon after, with the all-clear, and they were sent home where Harry is being monitored during routine midwife visits.

In December 2009 the couple suffered the trauma of losing their daughter, Ella, who was stillborn two weeks before she was due.

Harry's birth is a welcome addition to the family.

"Harry's weight went down to 5lb 14oz but that is normal soon after birth. He is feeding well and is a contented, peaceful little chap," said Martyn.

The couple, who launched the charity Ella's Memory, in honour of their daughter, are finally seeing their campaign to overhaul the Royal Cornwall's Daisy Suite come to fruition. Work to refurbish the room, which provides specialist facilities for those going through the trauma of losing a baby, is due to be completed by February 21.

The charity has raised more than £29,000 to pay for the work, which will see a new bathroom, sofa bed, television and other equipment installed in the room.

"I am delighted at the progress so far. We are three weeks in and the men have really cracked on. The ceilings and floors are nearly finished. They all understand the project and have put their heart and soul into getting it finished."
