CALLINGTON Cricket Club have been left stunned by the sudden and unexpected death of their popular chairman, Peter Moores.
Mr Moores, 71, passed away at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro on Monday having been taken ill the previous day. He has been an official of the Cornwall Cricket League continuously for 35 years.
In 1977 he was elected onto the eastern sectional and grounds committee. He also served on the countywide management committee between 1985 until 1993 when he took over the post of east section treasurer.
When, in 2001, the sectional committees merged into one management committee he became league assistant treasurer. He attended a monthly league management meeting at Truro only four days before his death.

He was a stalwart member of the Callington club for whom he played as a medium pace bowler from the late 1950s to the 1980s.
He also worked on the ground and has been the club's long serving chairman. He is survived by his wife Ann and three children.
It was the family's wish that Wednesday evening's Hawkey Cup semi-final with Werrington should go ahead at Callington although the bad weather threatened to intervene.
A minute's silence had been organised to be observed prior to the game.
