Crowdfunder plea for Penzance pop up Christmas grotto
THE Pop Up Penzance group has joined forces with local theatre company Mercurial Wrestler to create a magical Christmas Grotto in Peasgoods this year.
On Friday they launch a Crowdfunder campaign, one of 20 projects nationally to compete for a special promotion package, so their aim is to be the project to raise the highest percentage of its target on that day.
The film they have created to promote their Crowdfunder campaign tells the story of Grandfather Frost, who for reasons unknown, has had to move house just before Christmas.
He has been seen wandering the streets of Penzance, closely followed by a large Polar Bear, in search of an empty space to locate his Christmas Depot. Thanks to Pop Up Penzance he will set up his depot in the old Peasgoods, and will bring all sorts of magic with him included wish-filled firecrackers, glittering icicles, Aurora Borealis stored in the cellar, candy cane-covered fir trees, fireplaces with stockings and of course, North Polar Bear.

All going well, children in the area will soon see postboxes around the town where they can post their Christmas wishes for him to read.
And from mid-December they will be welcome with family and friends to visit Grandfather Frost.
Pop Up Penzance and Mercurial Wrestler must raise £1,800 to fund Grandfather Frost’s Christmas Depot.
Becca Gill, of Mercurial Wrestler, said: “We do need to pay for actors, equipment and materials to transform an empty shop into a place of magic and wonder.
“On Friday if possible, but also at any time in November, go to www.crowdfunder.co.uk, find Grandfather Frost’s Christmas Depot, and pledge as much as you can, so we can bring him to Penzance this Christmas.”
Rachel Martin, of Pop Up Penzance, added: “If you haven’t used it before, it’s very easy to use, and we will welcome any and all donations, and there are thank yous and rewards for all our donors.”
