COMFORTABLE WIN:
-

EDGCUMBE were in scintillating form at Altarnun, winning their Premier Division match 6-0. Dave Lorimer opened the scoring after a goalmouth scramble and they doubled the lead when Brett Shannon headed home. The home keeper punched the ball out from another Edgcumbe attack but only as far as Shannon who headed his second. Tom Hall headed a fourth following a free kick and then a defensive lapse let Richard Bond in for the fifth. Graham O'Neill added another goal to give the visitors a very comfortable afternoon. St Dennis opened their season with a 3-1 defeat of Pensilva. The visitors bossed the opening five minutes, but St Dennis caught them on the break and Carl Rickard rounded the keeper for the opener. A short corner from Lee Rickard on the half hour found Richard Hawke who doubled the lead. CJ Bird added a third after some good build up play in the 63rd minute, but Pensilva boasted two good young players in Joe Fry and Jack Podmore and it was Fry who gave them a consolation goal 15 minutes from time with a neat finish. Last season's Division One champions Looe Town made a stunning start at Gunnislake, going 2-0 up in 12 minutes from Danny Carroll and Matt Barton. The home team reorganised their defence cutting out the long ball that was causing all their problems and got back in contention after a long through ball found Darren Benfield who went on to score. Gunnislake equalised when Jarryd Kelly headed home and two second half goals from Tom Hall gave Gunnislake a 4-2 victory. St Teath, with two games under their belt, visited Foxhole who were opening their season, and the team work the visitors have built up in those two opening matches certainly showed as the hosts struggled to string passes together. St Teath pressed strongly, but it was 26 minutes before they took the lead. Foxhole were dangerous on the break and from one of these in the 40th minute a good passing move led to Anton Lake crossing for Aidan Rundle to equalise. Another flowing home move was denied by a fine save by the St Teath keeper, but then the visitors restored their lead deep into first half injury time. Foxhole played a little better in the second half but a soft penalty award in the 52nd minute saw the visitors out of sight as they then added three more goals for a comprehensive 6-1 scoreline. Adie Jeffs scored a hat-trick with Darren Roose (2) and James Mountain completing the St Teath scoring. Lamerton have made a poor start, losing at home for the second consecutive week as James Olsen scored the only goal of the game for St Mawgan.
Division One
ST CLEER PROVE TITLE:
St Cleer proved their Division One title credentials as early as their second match, with an all too easy eight goal stroll at Dobwalls. Colin Wilson led the slaughter with four goals with Ryan Thorogood, Edwin Bradshaw, Jon Niblett and Lee Collins all scoring a goal apiece. Fowey United opened with a win, defeating Mevagissey 3-2. Josh Frampton, Dave McHardy and Jamie Martin scored for the hosts with Jon Doherty and Richard Lakeman replying for Mevagissey. Dave Jefferies scored over 50 goals last season and he opened his account for his new side Lanivet with a brace as they defeated Tywardreath RBL 3-0. Gary Masters completed the scoring. Saltash United got off the mark beating Godolphin Atlantic 4-2 with Tony Jane hitting a hat-trick. Chris Hamilton completed the home scoring. Tom Graham and Dan O'Callaghan replied for Godolphin. Chris Allmett scored both goals as St Dominick opened with a 2-0 win at Maker with Rame. Holywell Bay/Cubert Athletic won their first game in the higher division, winning 2-1 at St Merryn thanks to a Peter Bruce brace. Paul Banks replied for St Merryn.
Division Two
GOAL MACHINE IN TOP FORM:
Week St Mary hammered Camelford 8-2, and have now hit 15 goals in two games as they open their Division Two adventure. Rob Hambly scored a brace with the other goals shared between Jason Mountain, Wayne Hannaford, Sean Johns, Adam Colwill, Vince Brown and an own goal. Billy Daynes and Jake Dickinson scored consolation goals for Camelford. Bodmin Saints hit 10 without reply at Biscovey and only an inspired goalkeeping performance kept it down to that number. Jason Ames was sensational, hitting six goals, with Dan Martindale, Steve Hosken, Dan Jennings and Liam Ames completing the rout. Polperro scored a first win defeating St Stephen 4-1. On a boiling afternoon, two honest, hardworking youthful sides served up a highly entertaining game of end to end football, well refereed by Roy Buscombe. Polperro took a deserved lead through James Morris, when he latched onto a great flick from strike partner Zack Davey. The home side then doubled their advantage after a flowing move led to Morris seizing onto Jordan Whaley's through ball. St Stephen had chances to claw a goal back, but the inexperience of their young strikers proved costly. Both sides emerged from the half time break in determined mood, but Polperro scored a third when Tristan Maeers' bullet header from a corner proved unstoppable. St Stephen continued to battle, and scored a deserved goal from a disputed penalty through Ross Dunn. Polperro rounded off the game late on through Liam Moran's fine finish.
Division Three
GORRAN PUSH FOR WINNER:
AFC Bodmin took the lead at home to Gorran after loose marking from a long throw. They doubled their lead soon after half time with a cool finish. Bodmin dominated much of the second half but even when they did manage to beat the inspired debutant David Grose in goal, the frame of the goal denied them on two occasions. With 10 minutes to go Lucas Lowe Houghton gave Gorran hope with a smart first time finish from the edge of the area. This spurred his team-mates into action, and Dave Jones started to stamp his authority on the midfield. Gorran refused to give up, though, and with time running out a long ball caused confusion in the Bodmin defence and Nick Parkin stooped to head into an empty net from the edge of the area. With a renewed confidence Gorran pushed on for the winner and with one minute to go Nick Parkin chased what seemed a lost cause but another mistake in the home defence left him with the chance to win it which he calmly took much to his team's delight. Jon Summerfield and Jamie Andrew scored the home goals. Two teams with perfect records clashed at Bere Alston, where visitors Lanreath ran in to an in form Will Westlake, who scored four goals. Jamie Daniels added a brace and Darren Phillips and Josh Notman also scored as the home side thrashed the visitors 8-1. James Robertson scored a lone consolation goal for Lanreath. Roche have a completely new team this season and they featured in a well-contested game at Wadebridge before slipping to a 3-2 defeat. Craig Tamblyn and Damien Child scored for the visitors while a Paul Dingle brace and a Tom Wood goal gave the hosts the spoils. Will Glassup scored a hat-trick for Looe Town reserves as they won 4-0 at Gunnislake reserves to avenge the defeat of their first team earlier in the afternoon. Ryan Childs was the other Looe marksman.
Division Four
ST TEATH PICK UP FIRST WIN:
Phil Screech scored four goals as St Teath reserves picked up a first win in Division Four beating Altarnun reserves 5-2. Matt Mountain added the other home goal with Wayne Mackney and Dave Lee replying for Altarnun. Mount Charles played their first match at their new pitch and Mike Browne certainly enjoyed the new surroundings scoring four times in a 5-0 win over Gerrans. George Dos Santos was also on target. St Dennis reserves started poorly at Pensilva reserves but found their feet five minutes into the second half when Ross Tamblin hit home a stunning free-kick. Steve Masters scored another fine goal five minutes later as the visitors found their best form and ran out 4-2 winners. Tamblin and an own goal completed the St Dennis tally. Josh Johnson and Stuart Timms scored for Pensilva. Dan Parsonage scored a hat-trick and Karl Urlander a brace as Premier Sixes had a comfortable 6-0 defeat of Stratton United. Ben Lawrence completed the hosts' scoring. Biscovey reserves beat Grampound reserves 3-0 with Gary Barnard scoring a brace and Matt Starkie competing the scoring.
Division Five
PERRANPORTH TURN TABLES:
Division Five leaders Perranporth were totally outplayed in the first half at North Petherwin and were lucky just to be trailing to three goals from Dave Sharpe, Callum Reeve and Mike Houghton. Perranporth then turned the tables in the second half hitting back with a Steve Jones brace and a Rob Brandreth goal rescuing a point from a 3-3 draw. New signing Joe Davis scored both goals as Bridgerule recorded a fine 2-0 home win over Premier Sixes reserves. Callington Town celebrated their return to the league with a 4-3 defeat of Southgate Seniors. Lucas Skop scored a brace with Dan Gregory and Ross Clark completing the home total.
