VIDEO: Danger to life warning issued for Cornwall and Truro braces itself for flooding
People in Cornwall are being urged to take care after a “danger to life” flood warning has been issued ahead of this evening’s torrential rain and strong tidal surges.
The Environment Agency has upgraded Cornwall’s flood status to “severe” this afternoon, meaning that tonight’s wild weather could cause a danger to lives in the county.
Swollen river levels have caused the agency to single out the centre of Truro, including Garras Wharf, as having a particularly high flood risk.
High tide will hit the city at 5.25pm when it is in danger of experiencing devastating floods.

The “danger to life” warning covers the length of Cornwall and will be in force until late Saturday morning.
A spokesman from the Environment Agency said: “Conditions in exposed locations will be dangerous so please remain a safe distance from coastal frontages.”
Cornwall is expected to see a month’s rainfall over the next two days.
Gale force winds and 6.6 meter tides will batter the coast causing further flood fear to areas such as Penzance, Newlyn Green, Marazion, Longrock, Porthleven, St Mawes, Pentewan, Looe, Seaton, Kingsand and Cawsand.
High tides across the county will hit between 4.40pm and 6pm this tonight and 5am and 6am tomorrow morning.
Emergency services are on high alert and Cornwall Council’s crisis team, silver command, has been assembled.
