Daredevil Newquay girl Gabriella raises £750 for African water supply with skydive
A HIGH-FLYING Newquay schoolgirl has raised more than £750 for an international humanitarian aid charity with a nerve-racking skydive.
Gabriella Cornes, 16, who studies at Newquay Tretherras Academy, set her fundraising target as it will enable charity Cafod to pay for a community water supply in Africa.
She leapt out of a plane, strapped to an instructor, on Sunday. Gabriella had wanted to take the plunge on her 16th birthday, September 15, but unfortunately the conditions were too poor.
Proud mum Sheona said: "She did brilliantly. The supporters were more nervous than she was. We are all so proud of her, not only because she has shown how brave she is but also because she has chosen to do this for charity. We'd like to say a big thank you to the staff of Skydive Cornwall in Perranporth for making the day possible."
