David Bowie self portraits go under the hammer in Penzance
MUSICAL icon David Bowie has shown he is also a dab hand with a paint brush after three self portraits by the performer were sold at auction in Penzance.
Painted during the 1990s and signed on the back, the creations form part of the 'D-Heads' series which Bowie painted prolifically during that decade.
David Lay sold the paintings at Penzance Auction House for a total of £6,500 to a bidder from London.
"It is always interesting to see the reaction to art that has a celebrity connection," said Mr Lay. "David Bowie's reputation as a cultural icon meant that we were expecting a good response. These three self-portraits came from the estate of well-known St Ives art dealer 'Gillie' Gilbert who I think would have enjoyed the attention that his collection created."
