Controversial plans for a massive housing and retail development on the outskirts of Truro will be heard next week.

The proposal includes plans for 1,500 homes, a restaurant, retail space, a care home and an extension to the Truro park and ride on land at Langarth near Threemilestone.

Cornwall Council's strategic planning committee will look at the scheme next Thursday in what is sure to be a heated meeting.

It is one of two separate but parallel outline applications from developers Inox which also include a stadium on Langarth Farm behind the existing park-and-ride.

Outline planning permission was granted in November for the stadium on land to be donated by the developers - a date has not yet been set for a hearing on whether to grant full detailed planning permission.

If approved by Cornwall Council the housing, retail and restaurant scheme would be developed over the next 10 to 15 years on 160 acres of land around the existing park and ride on the northern edge of the A390.

The Cornwall Council planning website shows six members of the public have commented on the development for 1,500 homes and all have objected.

“kernowbeat, how is this good? it's 1500 homes across a number of green fields divorced from everything except a park and ride. Using a sprat to catch a mackerel springs to mind...the sprat being the stadium - this would never be considered otherwise. Presumably you don't live at threemilestone, if you did then you would know that this is going to make our life a nightmare with traffic congestion!”

The petition is now closed, but this is the time to tell the council how you feel about this scheme, pro or anti.
