East Devon Council authorities opt for a freeze on council tax
Two Devon councils have frozen council tax as part of budget plans for the next financial year.
East Devon District Council refused to increase its share of bills, despite massive grant cuts, taking advantage of a 1% Government bonus for keeping spending flat.

The Conservative authority also waved through an extra £85,000 to update its website, rejecting criticism and an alternative plan to spend the cash on recycling, at a meeting on Wednesday.
North Devon District Council passed its spending plans for a 0% council tax rise at a meeting on Thursday.

The Liberal Democrat and Independent-run council approved the budget despite an attempt by the Conservative opposition to slash grant funding for arts and community groups.
The Tories wanted to cut £177,000 from next year's spend and hold it in reserve for future use.
Conservative leader Des Brailey said the council "had not taken the difficult decisions".
