Devon private schools best for GCSE results
Private schools in Devon outperformed their counterparts in Cornwall in GCSE results, new figures show.
Data provided by the Independent Schools Council shows just under 77% of pupils at The Maynard School, a girls school in Exeter, received grades A or A* in their exams. The results made it the top performing school in the two counties. In second place was Exeter School, where 75% of pupils won the top A* and A grades.
Truro School in Cornwall was the county's top performer, where 56% of pupils got A* or A grades and 94% got A*-C grades.
It was followed by St Joseph's School at Launceston was next in the list, where 55% of pupils won A* and A grades. Some 51% of pupils at Truro High School for Girls obtained A* or As.

In Devon, the number of pupils to get the top two grades at West Buckland School, St Margaret's School in Exeter and Plymouth College, was 47%, 45% and 41% respectively.
At St Piran's School in Cornwall, where just nine pupils took GCSEs, just over 35% got grade A* and A, while at GEMS Bolitho School in Penzance, a smaller percentage of their 23 entrants got the two top grades. At Shebbear College, Beaworthy in Devon, 34% of pupils who took GCSEs obtained A* and A, and at Trinity School Teignmouth, 21% got the two top grades.
