Dick Strawbridge shows support for Falmouth hospital's healing garden
One of the best-known faces on British television has given a green project his seal of approval at its official launch yesterday.
Moustachioed engineering enthusiast and passionate environmental supporter Dick Strawbridge joined patients, visitors and staff at the newly created green space at Falmouth Hospital, which will see a tree planted for each hospital employee.

Research has shown that improved access to green space can aid patient recovery time; reduce stress at work, provide areas for relaxation, provide an opportunity to exercise and help bring communities together.
NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly is working in partnership with the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, with a funding contribution from the Rowse Trust, to launch this new pilot project, NHS Forest at Falmouth Hospital.
More than 100 trees are being planted on Falmouth Hospital's grounds, including fruit trees and nut trees to create a new green space, situated near to the minor injuries unit. Mr Strawbridge, presenter of television series It's Not Easy Being Green, was joined by garden designer Chris Greene for yesterday's launch.
Schools will be encouraged to use the area as an outdoor classroom for the study of bio-diversity, while the public will be able to use it for exercise and relaxation.

“Personally I think this is an excellent idea - for the patients. However, I cannot remember a time when working in various hospitals when I ever had any time to enjoy 'the greenery' surrounding the buildings! All I ever saw was 'bright defused lighting', medical equipment going tick-tock, and dedicated staff going about their business! Oh, and the sound of the Pipes playing 'music to my ears' which aided my concentration, but drove the other members of staff mad!”
