Diesel power fires railway exhibition
A railway expert who has collected some 3,000 photographs of trains and ticket offices, stations and sidings will be showing a selection of them at a special exhibition this month.
John Vaughan, who has researched and written several books on the subject, donated his entire collection to the Cornish Studies Library in Redruth in 2009.
More than 100 of these are going on show at the town's Cornwall Centre, focusing not on steam but the diesel locomotives that ran for many years on Cornish main lines and branches. The images cover a period between 1970 and 2000 and feature lines, types of engine, classes of motive power and related infrastructure which have long since disappeared.
The opening of the two-week exhibition on Saturday will mark the launch of Mr Vaughan's latest book, Cornish Railways. He will be at the centre on Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm for a book-signing session.

Kim Cooper, principal library officer at the Cornwall Centre, said: "This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet this railway expert and author and talk about his work and research as well as viewing the excellent images. The exhibition will showcase only a fraction of the images donated to us by Mr Vaughan, but the entire collection is available at the Cornwall Centre for the public to view at any time."
The centre is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 10am and 5pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm.
