Dinner and dance for St Ives' RNLI appeal
St Ives RNLI volunteers are to host a night of dinner and dancing in aid of the special appeal to raise £100,000 for a recovery vehicle for their new lifeboat.
The new Shannon class all weather lifeboat due in 2015 can be launched and recovered from the beach as well as a slipway so it is always ready.
St Ives’ lifeboat volunteers are working to raise part of the cost of the custom built tracked vehicle that lets it do this.
The marquee event in the appeal will be the dinner at the St Ives Harbour Hotel and Spa on Saturday November 23.
St Ives’ RNLI appeal fundraising chairperson Suzanne Tanner said: "It’s been a very busy few months for the team at St Ives RNLI since the launch of the appeal Her Majesty the Queen’s visit in May, with a summer jam packed with events such as coffee mornings, model lifeboat displays, raft races and more.
“The dinner and dance is an opportunity for everyone to get dressed up in their finery and treat themselves to a lovely meal and enjoy the entertainment laid on for them, whilst at the same time providing a vital contribution towards the fundraising appeal for the launch and recovery vehicle.”
St Ives will be one of the first lifeboat stations in the country to receive the new £1.5m lifeboat that will be funded by a generous legacy.
The appeal will be raising funds to help meet the £1 million cost of the specially designed launch and recovery vehicle that will be needed to go with it.
The Shannon has been designed in-house by RNLI naval architects.
With a top speed of 25 knots, the Shannon is faster than her predecessor the Mersey, which has a top speed of 17 knots.
Tickets for the Dinner and Dance are priced at £25 per person. To book contact Suzanne Tanner on 07802 785 987 or via the RNLI St Ives Lifeboat Day and Events Facebook page or twitter LifeboatDaySS.
St Ives Harbour Hotel and Spa is offering RNLI guests a reduced rate for the weekend of the dinner and dance.
