Disruption to travel as rain and floods continue in Cornwall

Cornwall has been told to expect more rain today, with further disruption to the Duchys transport systems.

Exeter-based weather agency, the Met Office, has Cornwall on a yellow 'be prepared' weather warning today, saying "showers, some of them heavy, are expected to affect the area at times during Monday, mostly dying out later, although perhaps persisting towards west Cornwall.

"The rainfall will not be as persistent, nor as heavy, as on recent days but nevertheless, given the saturated nature of ground, the public should be aware of the possibility of further localised flooding and disruption to travel."

The B3254 in Liskeard is closed in both directions because of a landslip and fallen tree.

Rosehill in Mylor Bridge is also closed in both directions because of flooding.

Rail operator, First Great Western said "Due to the continued severe weather conditions into Devon and Cornwall we are still unable to operate rail services into these areas.

"Customers are advised not to travel unless absolutely necessary. Services to/from South Wales are also affected with a reduced service.

"Customers are advised if they do wish to travel to expect extended journey times and to make the necessary provisions.

"As further rainfall is expected across the country in the next 24 hours, please check your journey plans before commencing your travel arrangements."

Flights to the Isles of Scilly from Newquay are delayed. Flights inland to London appear to be running on time.

Police have warned "flood damaged properties may encourage rogue traders to come knocking. Be aware of doorstep callers, always check ID and credentials."

Cornwall Fire and Rescue dealt with 520 calls and Council's customer contact centre with 1,100 calls over weekend.

Specialist teams will be on hand with advice for communities affected by flooding at 4 drop-in centres this evening between 5pm and 7pm at:
