Dogs may face a partial ban from Cornish beach
A Cornish beach loved by dog-walkers could soon see the four-legged friends confined to a specific section of the sands.
Members of Perranzabuloe Parish Council this week decided to explore a partial ban on dogs using Perranporth beach, amid heated debate both in favour of and opposing a total ban.

Some beach users say they dislike dogs being able to roam the beach without a lead, while others have complained about dog mess.
But dog users say the beach is a haven for their animals, while some traders fear an impact on their businesses if dog owners are forced to exercise their animals elsewhere.
The council members decided a completely restricted or unrestricted access for dogs would not be a compromise for either group, and has instead backed the idea of a partial ban.
Councillor Jinny Clark said: "A sub-group will now decide on whether a partial ban will see restrictions based on a combination of season, place and time.
"This is a very divisive issue, and we want to make sure we are doing the right thing."
The council is expected to make a final decision on the partial ban later this month.

“The problem is not the dogs but the owners. Really hefty fines should be given and publicised as a sort of deterrent to those bad owners. And Aggie you cannot choose which rules you will obey and which you will ignore. That makes you as bad as the irresponsible owners who allow their pets to foul the beach and do not pick it up.”

“Ban or no ban, our family have been using that beach with our various dogs over 40 years, so ban or no ban we will continue. Bring on a prosecution. If we refuse to give the warden our details and walk off, they cannot inforce it!”

“I've just spent aa lovely 2 weeks down in your lovely county, and we were with another family who have a dog.
We stayed at Praa Sands, but travelled daily to differnet beaches where dogs are welcome. Praa Sands is after 7pm for dogs, but as our children love playing in the sea with him, we went and found other beaches where he was allowed.
I think it would be a shame to ban dogs on the beach altogether, but equally, i understand that there are some dog owners who can be irresponsible with their dogs, and for that reason, a partial ban may be best. I actually think all of the beaches should have am area where dogs are allowed to be - but then there are always going to be people who flout the laws :(
However it's sorted, we hope to be back next spring, with the dog :)”

“yes i think everyone who owns dog/s should pick up their own dogs sh1t. i always pick up my dogs sh1t. i get fed up with stepping in it and the buggy wheels getting caked in it. some people say well its on the grass verge so it doesnt matter, course it blinking matters rule is pick up your dogs sh1t. if people can be bothered to pick up their dogs sh1t then rehome your dog to more responsible owners. if this comment pees you off then i reckon you must be one of the many that leaves their dogs sh1t behind.”

“I see it every day too. However, as usual it's the minority that do ruin it for the rest of us. I've got two kids so I'm not exactly pleased with the status quo but further protestations will ruin it for the rest of us.
The dog warden as been a welcome presence this summer so hopefully a few on the spot fines will deter the losers unable to clean up after their dogs.
Please don't tar us all with the same brush!”
