Veteran striker Barry Hayles has made a dramatic return to Truro City  and has gone straight into the squad for Saturday's crucial home Blue Square Bet South game against Maidenhead Unted.

The former Premiership marksman left the club in the summer and has been playing for St Albans in the Southern League premier division.

But has now joined City's fight against relegation and his arrival back at Treyew Road should provide a major boost for the club's thread bare squad.

The former Fulham and Plymouth forward scored 26 goals in 63 appearances for Truro in two seasons  and quickly became a fans' favourite helping them in his first season to the Southern League premier division title.

And  City boss Lee Hodges said he was delighted to have  Hayles back with the club.

Hodges said: "Barry did not want to go in the first place and he has kept in touch.

"He has always been more than welcome to come back and it is a massive boost for the club. I am really chuffed that he is back.

"I am sure it will give the boys a real lift."

Hayles has signed on  a non-contract basis and the London-based forward will only be paid expenses.

Saturday's game is a real "six pointer" for basement club City, who were deducted ten points after going into administration,  against third from the bottom Maidenhead who beat then 8-0 in Berkshire earlier in the season.
